The Château de Bagatelle honored at the Grand Trianon of Versailles.

05 May 2026

From May 5 to September 27, 2026, the Palace of Versailles hosts a new exhibition: Gardens of Light, 1750-1800, presented at the Grand Trianon.

Through nearly 160 works bringing together paintings, drawings, costumes and furniture, the exhibition traces a real aesthetic revolution: the passage from rigorous French gardens to romantic curves of the English landscape garden. Nourished by the ideals of Rousseau and the attraction to exoticism, this new relationship with nature profoundly transformed aristocratic life, favoring sociability in the open air and lavish parties.

The Domaine de Bagatelle, perfectly illustrating the passion for staged nature, occupies a special place in this exhibition. The Château de Bagatelle is highlighted thanks to the exceptional presence of four works by Hubert Robert, on loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which recreate the atmosphere of his bathroom.
